Kudos!

On October 16, the Charlotte Community Foundation awarded 12 local nonprofit organizations with grants totaling $60,000. Foundation Chairman Ron Monck and Grants Advisory Council Chairman Denis Lowry presented the checks at a special program held at Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club. Congratulations to the following grant recipients:
- Animal Welfare League, $7,500 for the purchase of an inhouse x-ray machine for injured animals
- Charlotte County Arts and Humanities, $2,500 to publish a study on the impact of arts on the local economy
- Charlotte County Boys and Girls Club, $2,000 for materials to support their Fit for Life program
- Charlotte HIV/AIDS People Support, $2,500 for the purchase of a commercial refrigerator for their food pantry
- Charlotte County Computer Group, $5,000 to help obtain storage space and software for refurbishing donated computers
- Hearing Impaired Persons of Charlotte County, $4,800 for training materials and scholarships for the Cued Speech Program
- Keep Charlotte Beautiful, $5,000 to assist in printing and awards for their 2010 calendar art contest
- New Operation Cooper Street, $5,000 for new classroom furniture
- Peace River Wildlife Center, $7,100 for expansion of their shorebird habitat and a new flight cage for eagles and raptors
- Punta Gorda Historical Society, $3,000 for light fixtures and fire extinguishers at History Park’s Price House
- St. Vincent DePaul Health Care, $7,500 for in-clinic diagnostic laboratory equipment
- Suncoast Humane Society, $5,600 for surgical equipment for
their expanded low-cost spay and neuter program
Additionally, the Hasan and Barbara Hammami Community Legacy Fund awarded a $3,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity’s Abrahamic House.
Since its inception in 1995, Charlotte Community Foundation has contributed more than $2 million to benefit the residents of Charlotte County.
